HSBC Union Platinum Master Card missing statement complaint
JH in Minnesota reported: “Boy if this doesn’t sound familiar! In May 2004 I never got a statement from my HSBC Union Platinum Master Card. In April I get a bill with a $35.00 late fee. I called customer service and got the rudest, unprofessional customer service rep with an attitude. Kept saying “read your contract, it is not our fault your bill didn’t arrive. I closed account over the phone with him and followed up with a letter verifying I closed the account and paid off balance. all except the late fee. Their records say they closed the account. I sent many letters filing complaints, and they replied to one and would not cooperate with any of my requests (e.g. name and address of CEO, which government agency regulates them)
Their $35.00 late fee escalated to over $300.00 and then they sold account to a collection agency which just placed a derogatory statement on my credit file. I have filed a complaint with OCC and am waiting for their reply. Other than HSBC I have had an excellent credit rating for over 20 years, my only negative remarks are from them. I would recommend you go without a credit card rather than doing any business with HSBC. If you search the internet you will find many blogs and complaints about this predatory lender. “Character and ethics” are in my opinion not in their vocabulary.”
