HSBC Retail Services tells innocent friend he is co-signer
DD in California said: “I have repeatedly been harrassed and threatened by phone from the HSBC collectors to collect a debt on a friend’s loan I didn’t sign for. I went with him to look at motorcycles and while I was there I ran my credit. I DID NOT sign, co-sign or purchase anything. I only signed one paper to see where my credit was at BEFORE my friend picked out his bike. Later my friend picked out and purchased a Yamaha motorcycle. I didn’t sign or co-sign any of his purchase papers. This was Spring of 2007.
This last week I have been receiving threatening phone calls from HSBC Retail Service saying that I’m a co-signer on his account and have to pay the payments on the bike. I’ve told them repeatedly that I never co-signed anything for him. They are threatening my credit, which is immpecable, yet they refuse to give me the account number or send me a copy of the purchase agreement or notice to co-signer, - which I know they can’t come up with any of that with my signature, unless it is forged. I had two of the people tell me that since I ran my credit that automatically made me a co-signer. My mother witnessed these conversations. Currently I am trying to get a hold of my friend to obtain a copy of his purchase agreement. I will also contact the FTC to see if this is fraud, using my social security number incorrectly.”
