HSBC Claims To Be A Finance Company, Not a Bank

MA in Ketucky reports: “I was contacted by an HSBC creditor who was a lady that talked so fast that she should have been a auctioneer, she contacted me about my payment on my truck. I am disabled and get paid once a month so i have been late on occasion. This lady asked me “When can you make a payment?” I told her I would contact her that Friday and tell them when I could make the payment, the lady then asked me “How are you going to make your payment?” I told her I would send a check or money order she then asked “was your wife’s account still at our local bank where we send the checks from?”

I told her yes, not knowing what she had up her sleave, she took $368.01 from my wife’s checking which I am not on without her knowledge or approval. By the time the bank had contacted us it was well over $400.00 that we had to put back in the bank that we did not have. We borrowed money to get out of the arrears that we were charged $29.00 a day from the bank. HSBC stole money out of my wifes checking account that was not there. I contacted them and asked them how could you go into somone else’s checking account and take money that was not there or was not authorized by my wife.

I see this company as very immoral and not very ethical in their procedures. The owners of HSBC have people working for them that dont talk very good english and you have a very hard time understanding and this is done on purpose, i think. The reason i was told the money was taken out of my wife’s account is because she had done a check over the phone the previous month and told them this was a one time thing and not a regular procedure and we would send in a check or money order the next month and they took that information and used it the following month ( wifes routing and checking account number), i asked how could you do that?

The person on the other end told me they were not a bank but a finance company and they could do that, and for me to get the money put back, i needed to go to my wifes bank the next day and fill out an affivadit to get her money back into her account, which was stolen in the first place from her by HSBC. At the bank we contacted a HSBC rep. if they would refund the bank and the late fees, they told us to fill out two affidavits not one, and see what happens. Here it is 9/13/07 and we will wait and see. Do not give HSBC your routing number and checking account number ever! You may find yourself out of a whole lot of money that you do not have!”
