G.O. in Pennsylvania says: “I mailed a payment to HSBC 7 days prior to the due date as stated online, when I called on the phone to ask about my payment, the phone says to mail the payment 10 days before the due date. I mailed a payment to another credit card at the same time, and so far it was received 3 days before the Household Bank payment which they claimed they never received. HSBC blames the US postal service, which I do not believe. This is absolutely a predatory lending practice, holding the payment until they can collect their late fee. I have two other credit cards that I pay online and their payments can be made the day before they are due for no fee, but Household Bank needs 3 days to do the same thing, and charges a fee!

I believe this is absolutely intentional to continue to charge late fees to people who are not paying late. I also had charges on my card that I never agreed to, when I called to complaim they would not remove the over the limit fee which was not my fault and they never removed the unauthorized monthly charge, they just changed it to a lesser amount which I still never agreed to. If someone could tell me where I can go to stop them, I would really appreciate it. I had credit problems in the past and finally after 10 years of paying on time and getting my credit rating back on track, it’s being destroyed by one company. I can write a letter to the credit agencies, but does that do any good? It still a big company that for some reason wants to make it so I can’t borrow money to fix up my house. Why does HSBC want to fight me sending my kids to college? “

Stop complaining, just cancel the card.

Cancelling the card is a great idea but will not undo damage to the credit report. Getting an HSBC credit card in the first place was probably a bad idea.
