This is a reported from NB in Washington State. It is a true sign of HSBC as a predatory lender. It reflects Household International through and through, although HSBC bought Household back in 2003. Warning - this report will make you mad, sad, or both:
“I got a credit card in 2005, and I told customer service I’m on disability due to MS, and get my check on the 3rd and pay online with bill pay. I was told that is fine. I started getting $30.00 late charges and talked to customer service and again they said it would be fixed. To make a long story short, I have written, emailed and talked to more than 8 reps that all said it would be fixed. My late charges are now over 400.00 and I cut the card up October 2006 and cancelled. They have not done one thing they said they would. My friend has called 4 or 5 times on my behalf, and I called again yesterday, the 3rd time this month.”
Editor’s Note: HSBC credit cards are on a sliding billing cycle of less than 30 days. When someone is on fixed income with one check per month the due date is like trying to hit a moving target. It has been that way for years. When this person told HSBC about fixed income and the date of the check, and online bill pay, HSBC could have explained the billing cycle. HSBC did not.
