EZ in North Carolina said this about an HSBC CD: “In May HSBC was running a 3-month CD promotion with 5.25% APY. I opened a 3-month CD and a person in HSBC even helped me transfer the money. However, when I looked at my account later, the interest is only 2.76 percent. I contacted HSBC over the phone 3 times. Every time they just kept asking me call back but they were very interested in selling you another HSBC product! Talking to HSBC customer service is the worst thing I have ever experienced. Long story short - the problem is still the same, and I am mad every time I talk to them. The 3rd time when I talked to them, they said the money has to come from outside HSBC and be eligible for 5.25%.

When I opened this CD, I looked everywhere on their web site and nothing mentioned that, and the person at HSBC even transferred money for me! And in the first 2 times, none of the customer service reps at HSBC said that to me. I think they are just trying to fool the customer. I didn’t print out the ad when I opened the CD, and that is why they will give you different stories every time.

I think they put their customer service in India even at some manager levels. These people sound polite but they are not helpful at all. HSBC customer service is more like a Vase for decoration! I even contacted them through email but the answer I got was asking me to contact via phone with the regular customer service number.

I will never use HSBC anymore and sure will not recommend HSBC to anybody.”
