HSBC Vendor Incentives And Live Checks

HSBC Vendor Incentives And Live Checks

JH said: “I have had HSBC Visa for several years, never really used it much. I also don’t get any statements from them, just an email notice when “payment is due”. Usually with zero balance, and for many months. I happened to look at my account and found $250.00 balance! Immediately very concerned (scare of identity theft, etc). And did not recognize the vendors, but the phone numbers were there so called one of he vendors, some auto advantage outfit. The rep was nice enough to take the charge off my card.

I finally put two and two together, I evidently am on their “solicitation list” to be sent “promos” in the form of $10 check every month or so. I thought these checks were just “incentives” for me to use my card more, as it is not AT ALL immediately detectable as to why they are being sent. I did this evening take one out that I had not yet cashed and on the back in small lettering it gives the promo company name, “if you sign this check you agree to blah blah blah….” In my mind this is a scam, not easily seen, I feel like I have been ripped off. To say nothing of the time it has taken to contact these promo companies and have my money refunded!! So I just plugged in HSBC scam on the internet and this site came up.

I did call HSBC, screamed and yelled at the poor rep on the phone, and told her to cancel my account immediately. I take full responsibility for NOT looking more closely at the checks, as NOTHING comes with it. Am writing just to warn others. But maybe most others are more careful before they cash checks sent to them from a bank. Thanks for letting me vent.”
