EJ in Iowa said: “I have had a mortgage with HFC Beneficial since 1996. At that time they had their appraiser do the appraisal and it was for $85,000. We bought our house and land from the owner and had a contract. It was for $35000. We had done a lot of work to the house, but $85000 was very inflated.
We also had a high interest rate of 8.75%. I have been paying all these years, and still owe $77000 on it. I got a divorce in 2005 and I kept the house and mortgage since my ex-husband didnt want it.
I had financial difficulty the last year and fell behind. I asked HSBC Beneficial for help, and they said they would modify my loan if I made 2 payments. I asked for written verification which I havent received and then I get a letter from them saying they couldnt put me in the modification program and did not recognize the 2 payments I sent.
HSBC Beneficial has said before they havent received my payment and I have had to run a trace on the money order to find they had received it, but they wouldnt take off late fees and it is very hard to get the balance down as they keep adding charges.
Is there any one who can help?”
