CB in Ohio said: “My first nightmare with HSBC was with my account with a midwestern retail store chain. It was bought out by another chain and I suddenly found my store credit card in the hands of HSBC. What ensued were exhorbitant late fees – as much as $45, brought on by payments that couldn’t be credited on the date of payment.
Last November I bought a computer at Best Buy by opening a credit card account and charging it. I was told I had 18 months to pay without any finance charges. I assumed I could pay whenever I wanted, so I missed the first $10 payment due date. When I got a phone call I discovered my account was with HSBC.
Had I known that I would never have opened the account!
They called me on the day my second payment was due and told me I owed a past due $10, a $37 late fee and the current $10. As if that wasn’t enough, I was told that in order for the payment to count for that business day, I had to pay by phone, which would cost another $15 for a phone processing fee!
Thus, my first payment was $72 of which only $20 went toward the actual bill. Determined not to be late a second time, I went to the Best Buy store where I was told, of course, that I could not make a payment.
Trying to find their website was another nightmare. Every month there is a new adventure with that. I had to call their customer service number 3 times to hear the website listing, and when I finally put in their website I got a series of links to other HSBC websites.
You don’t have to convince me that HSBC is the biggest rip-off company going!”
