CJ in Maryland said: “We have dealt with HFC more than one time and the first time was a really good experience so we decided to take out a small personal loan the second time. Not only was the interest rate high but they refuse to negotiate any details.

Then I was laid off for a few months and requested either our monthly unemployment insurance to kick in (which was boggled down in paperwork and by the time you get everyone to sign it I would have found a job by then) so we decided to apply for the economic hardship program.

We submitted all the paper work in May and was approved in June. We made the required payment that they also want it done by EFT to ensure they get their money but after May, the original payment was being taken out our account which caused bank fees for insufficient funds.

My wife and I tried calling the customer service but we always get the run around like the system needs to be updates or what letter. So finally, we called again and was told that the status was reversed without any explanations. We sent letters of complaint and still they continued to take the money out the bank causing more bank fees.

We did request that the EFT stop but to no avail so we eventually had to close the account and paid the required amount that they approved us. I am now employed and we are in the process of refinancing to pay them off but the whole process has been one headache and we are unsure if they will make the remaining payment a late payment issue.

We feel violated and dishonored as consumers. We really hope that Congress gets involved with HSBC because we appear not be the only ones.”
