KA in Florida says: “Several months ago, I accepted a balance transfer offer from HSBC for 0% for a year that has turned out to be the worst mistake of my life. I received my first bill last month with a minimum of $241 due on my $24,099 balance. No problem. I paid $500 with a check on May 15 - over 2 weeks before the balance was due. Today, June 18, I received for the first time in my life, a past due bill - from HSBC. I have always paid ALL of my bills on time, with absolutely no exception. My credit rating has been impeccable. Every single check I sent out in the mail along with that check to HSBC was received and cleared with my bank - except HSBC’s. Mysteriously, my check to HSBC was never applied.
I spent the entire evening reading DOZENS of similar complaints from other HSBC customers. And this is only what people have posted online. God only knows how many complaints have been filed on paper. In my 30 years of paying bills, I have never, ever had this problem. And now, suddenly, when I have a $25,000 debt, I am told I am late with my payment and now, my nice 0% rate has increased to an unbelievable and obscene 25% - something I have NEVER had before in my life. I owe $500 a month in interest charges. HSBC must have thought they had a live one with me, making $500 a month on me alone. This is the most humiliating experience I have ever had with a credit card company.
In my life, I have never had anyone claim they never received a payment. I am furious and can think of nothing else right now. There are so many people who do not care about paying their debts on time and who could not care less about their credit rating and personal responsibilities. I have always attempted to do the right thing by taking responsibility for myself, and THIS is what I get in return for all my efforts. I get a disgusting credit card company pulling a lame trick like this, and now my credit is marred, and I am lumped into a category with a pile of deadbeats. This is absolutely unforgivable. I cannot believe for one minute that these people mysteriously failed to receive my payment. I live in Florida, by the way. Tomorrow, when I am less upset, I am going to compose a letter to the attorney general or whomever else I have to in order to get this resolved. Any feedback or help is greatly appreciated. ”
