CS in Texas said: “This past week I received a letter from HSBC, with a check attached. It stated the following:
Please see the attached check in the amount of $–.– for the reimbursement on your credit card.
Well after much reseach and help from my bank, we found out it was a Best Buy account. The account is in my name and the last 4 numbers on the credit card match mine, But, my card and accout have been paid off for some time now! My bank is looking in to this matter from their end and suggested I do some further research before depositing the check.
So, I Googled my fingers off and it brought me to your site.
After reading the comments about HSBC Best Buy frauds, I wounder if this is one of those cases!
So, far all I am getting is the run around. HSBC gave us the run around.
HSBC asked for my personal info, but would not give us any info!
This is similar to what happened to EI in Oklahoma. How could I earn a credit on an account that has a zero balance and is not being used?
Sounds like fraud to me. I will not do any thing with that check. Also after reading EI in Oklahoma’s post, I hesitate to file a police report.
I will send a copy of her post to my bank, for they told me several of their customers have received these checks.
Thank you,EI in Oklahoma and others for all your comments!
They kept me from making a big mistake!”
