CS in Massachusetts said: “My son, (redacted), has an account with HSBC. He is often in Central America so I am authorized on his account and he gives me the money to pay his bills. On June 24th I paid off his balance and added $15 to the payment amount to cover the $15 fee that they were charging me to do the check by phone. The message said it would be 24 - 48 hours.

To be sure I talked with a representative who assured me that it would be within 24 hours.

During this time Jason was in Point Arena, California and had (still has) a serious medical situation and needed an antibiotic. HSBC did not honor the charge. I called very upset and escalated.

HSBC put a hold on his account because the check I sent was for MORE than the balance. Today they said it may not clear for another 4 - 5 days. I asked about their ‘ 24 - 48 hours’… they said it did post within 24 hours but that does not mean that credit is available.

In the meantime he is extremely sick.

There is no phone service where he is in Point Arena but I’m hoping at this point he is on his way to the emergency room.”
