ME in Florida says: “I accepted “pre-approved” HSBC offer with balance transfer sheet attached. Requested an $18000 transfer from one of my other accounts, some of which have credit limits double that. HSBC sent a shiny new card with a puny 10K limit, tagged on a $99 transfer fee and maxed it out for me, leaving the remainder of the 18K in the old account. Thats not the deal I asked for! I would have no problem if they had issued the card and advised me that the transfer amount was not approved. But now I have a maxed out card affecting my credit rating. I asked for an increase on my credit limit, but they insist that I activate the card first. I refuse until I have some assurance that the limit will meet my needs. I also offered to return to square one by transferring the balance back out of HSBC and asked HSBC if they would waive the $99 fee they charged. Of course they refused. So, I really have no choice but to pay the $99 or let my credit score take a beating for stiffing them out of it. I can also continue to spread the word that HSBC sucks!”
