J in California said: “I have been at war with HSCB for over six months now and there is no resolution in sight. After my divorce, my ex-wife was required to make payments on our Beneficial loan (I’m the sole account holder, but she was going to pay it). In October of last year, she called and made a payment via phone check for the remaining balance.

HSBC has no record of payment.
Gave them confirmation number. Still no.
Gave them bank statement where amount was taken. Still no.
Gave them receipt. Still no.
Gave them specific information the bank said could be used to track the payment. Still no.

They tried to claim the label DES: Payment on the bank statement stood for “Department of Economic Security” and was a child support payment, even after it was explained to them that the DES stood for “description”, as in “Description: Payroll” which was also on the statement.

Although, when I presented all of this info, they mysteriously took the info out of collections and back to in-house personel. And now, they aren’t going to sue. They are going to “charge off”.

I was supposed to buy a house this summer and now my credit is wrecked because of their incompetence. Here is a record of my phone conversation today, 5/11, with Collections Rep Ashley Catton. It went something like this:

HSBC has NO record of any transaction with that B of A account number…
they have NO concept of what the reference number means on the bank statement….
they don’t understand the concept of the fact that they also have a reciept…
the woman hasn’t heard anything like this in her 6 years of employement…
they have no actual number to contact their research department…you heard me…they have a fax number only…there is no ACTUAL person you can talk to…
she was taking my call as a “courtesy” because she didn’t have to speak with me because they are “charging off” the account…wait, weren’t they going to take me to court? now they are going to avoid legal proceedings? WTF
she got real edgy when I mentioned her name would go on the lawsuit, along with her supervisor “Why are you going to sue someone who has tried to help you”…
she then started to blame my ex-wife, say she must be a liar…etc…etc…
(i was talking to an American)

The people in India are no different than Americans and no of them might be even a little bit “criminal”…
it is “impossible” that they have been “paid”…
and “I’m going to end this phone call because I don’t have to deal with this. I’m not ‘customer service’, I’m collections so I don’t have to deal with this sort of thing”…
then …here is my manager, who will also suck and tell you nothing (at that point I took his name and extension. I needed to go back to class and teach)

If anyone knows a good lawyer, please help.”
