HSBC said “potentially fewer than ten people” were compromised in a theft of personal data from HSBC Private Bank in Geneva. Le Parisien newspaper said that the files contained details of thousands of clients of HSBC Private Bank in Geneva.

Buffalo was the headquarters of Marine Midland Bank — now HSBC Bank USA — for about 150 years before HSBC moved the legal headquarters, first to Delaware and now to northern Virginia. It still employs 6,000 in Buffalo, where it maintains substantial banking, support and back-office operations, but its holding company, HSBC USA, is based in New York City.

HSBC Watch daily news update: HSBC had $15.9 billion in loans and advances to customers in the U.A.E. at the end of June, according to the U.K.-based bank, which declined to comment on its lending in Dubai specifically.

HSBC North America Chief Executive Brendan McDonagh said favorable business trends seen in the third quarter have continued in the fourth quarter. What McDonagh really means is that the HSBC credit card business is more profitable now that HSBC raised your rates and cut available credit.
