HSBC recently started retail lending in Russia to tap a middle class it said is “relatively undamaged” by the global recession.

HSBC, which started corporate lending in Russia in 1997, opened its first retail branch in central Moscow today and plans to open three more plus one in St. Petersburg within a month, HSBC Russia Chief Executive Officer Stuart Lawson said in a Bloomberg Television interview in the Russian capital.
