I just want to say a few words. I am a manager with HSBC/ Benefical and was let go along with the 6100 others. It was a shock to all. I can say that I wish it would have rolled out differently and I don’t agree with the way it has been handled. I can say that I am so proud of all the work that I did and my people did over the many years I have been with the company. I feel heartbroken and cannot believe that we could not survive this. Beneficial has been around for more than 125 years and they survived the Great Depression. It is the worst thing that can happen to our people and our customers. We took pride in knowing that we were local and could help people that came in each day, now they will not have that one on one connection. I can say that even though there were those that broke the rules, overall the company did great things to help people- Beneficial that is.
Having to attend meetings the week prior and going on like we were the future and that HSBC was behind us, and then on Monday closed down. It was just so surreal. I feel so empty and also so disappointed that HSBC would not borrow money to keep us going. I know that we could have survived this time. All of us had already settled in the fact that we would not make the money that we had in the past, but were proud to still go in each day and do our best. It is a shame that the World’s Largest Bank could not see what a tragedy they have created.
Not only are the people that work for the company devastated, the customers are also. I have had several customers that have called crying the past 2 days when they found out. It truely is a shame and an end to a great legacy and it feels like a death of a great person.
It is hard to say goodbye, but the memories and the experience that we all have gained from such wonderful people will never go unnoticed.
Benefical may not show up in towns or cities anymore but it will always remain in the hearts of those that have been apart of such a great journey.
It is my prayer that before other financial institutions decide to follow HSBC, that they really take a hard look in finding ways to ride out this storm because they will be the ones that rise to the TOP when our great nation rises above this economic stress. I wish good luck and GOD speed to all those that were affected Monday. May your next journey bring you success and happiness.
Beneficial will always be missed. It was a great ride and I am grateful for being apart of it.
