In reply to our investigation concerning HSBC taking money out of people’s bank accounts this is what we learned so far:
“This is merely an example of HSBC’s gross incompetence, which usually leads to some amazing attempts at cover-ups.
I opened a CD (Certificate of Deposit) at a local HSBC branch. I used my HSBC debit card, which is tied to my HSBC checking account(opened and maintained AT THAT BRANCH), to fund the CD. Now these people know me. I have my mortgage, an auto loan, checking account, and 2 savings accounts there.
About 8-10 days later I realized my debit card was missing. I did a thorough search, then phoned HSBC and reported it lost. I went through their process of the report, invalidating that card, etc. I received my new card about 2 weeks later. I then went through the process of activating the new card.
A week or so after that, I needed to call that same local HSBC branch about a totally unrelated matter. While speaking to one of the “bank officers” she said and I quote, “Oh your debit card is sitting up here in the lost and found. I guess no one called you.”
I have a file, with documentation, of over 15 incidents, some like this and some more serious, which clearly show more incompetence and fraud to cover it up, on a level which is staggering.
I also filed a complaint on this site, about HSBC helping themselves to my checking account funds over a car loan which is not even valid. i.e. they screwed up the loan so badly they had to invalidate the original note.
As a warning, read the PROMISSARY NOTE very carefully. It does say they (HSBC) has the right to go into ANY account you have, except mortgage loans) and withdraw any money they deem you owe them.
