Hi folks, I really enjoy your web site. I too was victimized with a predatory account with HFC, now HSBC. HFC on two occasions sent me credit cards, which I sent back, then charged bogus late charges and interest to my account. I got mad and paid of my account in full, then they sent me a bill for another $99 which I refused to pay. Needless to say they gave me bad credit report with Equifax and TransUnion.

I sent my info to Equifax but they said it had to be in 5 lines or less which I did. Then they said it had to be in 2 lines or less. You get the picture. I have an A1 credit rating except for HSBC. The question I have is who really is HSBC? On some web pages they are described as American or British but one of the web pages for HSBC says they are the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank of China. I think that tells it all if they are.

Household - HSBC Watch Reply:
See the history of HSBC here. In the United States HSBC is controlled by The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which can be reached by telephone at 1-800-613-6743. Within HSBC North America the OCC also regulates credit card bank HSBC NV. Most of the complaints about HSBC come from HSBC Finance Corporation which is the new name of Household International, purchased by HSBC in 2002. The purchase was finalized in the spring of 2003.
