Topic Title: 1 teenager, 3 Credit Report Errors, All HSBC
CA asks in an email -
Hello. I'm looking at my credit report for the first time ever and am seeing accounts that I never had on it. All are HSBC's. They are: 1. HSBC/Heath 2. HSBC/KMART 3. HSBC NV I've tried to find an e-mail or phone number for these and cannot find anything. Do you know the information I need so that I can get these accounts closed??
The answer:
Your credit report should have a dispute form. The credit reporting agency is required to resolve the matter within 30 days.
HSBC's main switchboard telephone number is 847-564-5000
HSBC NV is 1-800-947-1000
Remember that calling HSBC does not protect your rights. If this looks like identity theft to you ( or you want the extra horsepower from reporting it as identity theft ) let the credit reporting agency know. They are required by law to notify the other reporting agencies.
Contacting HSBC won't do much good. Contact your state attorney general for help. They should ask HSBC why these errors took place. Also be aware that HSBC is required to prove to the reporting agencies that the debt is yours. Check everything carefully.
Run this Google search and look at the first 2 results - the FTC and your attorney general: http://www.google.com/search?q=reporting+identity+theft
Lastly, be aware that HSBC (formerly Household International) has a huge problem with proper credit reporting and you are not alone. HSBC will not admit anything so your attorney general (just google them for your state) must push HSBC or nothing will happen.
