Topic Title: Credit Card Never Arrived, HSBC Is No Help

TC in Washington said: About 3 years ago I had a HSBC credit card. I have paid all my bills on time. Never once being late or missing a payment. Then one day I saw a show on TV saying a armored truck had misplaced a box with peoples SSN and account numbers. I found out one of them was mine. Now I am jumping ahead a little here. One day HSBC called me to say they were sending me a NEW CARD. I said fine, I already have a HSBC card, I don’t need another one. They said it was a new card, and it was on the way. The card never came. So I called them a few weeks later to say that the card never did come to my home. The guy on the phone (who was in INDIA) asked, "DID I want to report the card stolen?" I said yes, because the card is not here.
After that I never heard another word from them. I continued to pay my bill and charge on the card as I always did. Now come the armored truck story. After I found out my SSN and account information was missing, I called a special number that the news told us all to call. When I did they sent me copies of my credit report from all three agencies. On one of them was HSBC. It said account very late, never paid. It showed a balance of $278.00. I called HSBC, again the call went to INDIA. The guy on the phone said it was my bill and I would have to pay for it. I said hold on a minute here. I have never gotten a bill for this card, or late statement or PHONE CALL about this.
The only reason I know about this is because I asked for a copy of my credit report. Also, if I owed HSBC this money, would you not stop all my accounts with you? Why wouldn’t anybody call or write me about the card. So I then ask them for proof of the card being activated and I also wanted copies of my SIGNATURE and place where the card was charged on. That was 2 years ago. I still have nothing. But this still remains on my credit report. These people have haunted me for years. I put a comment on my credit report disputing the charge and every time I get anything HSBC comes up.
Now I am trying to buy a new home. Again HSBC is back in the picture. If I had charged on this card I would have paid it. I pride myself on paying my bills, I work hard to keep a good credit report, but with HSBC, there is no help in sight. I am hoping that this story reached someone who may help. I found this site because I was contacting the state where HSBC is located and write the attorney general’s office. I pray this will end up there. I am now writing a letter AGAIN to HSBC trying to fix this problem. I know in my heart it will fall on deaf ears. Thank you for letting me vent.
