Topic Title: Paid off Yamaha acct padded with research fee
I purchased a Yamaha motorcycle and had it financed through the dealership which apparently used HSBC. I made all of my payments on time and then decided to simply pay it off when the intro apr expired. I payed it off, received confirmation of such, and received a statement dated 7/04/2006 with a $0 balance having payed of my account on 6/27/2006 according to the statement. I even received a small refund for overpayment. Having thought that I was finished with this creditor, I received a statement dated 8/04/2006 which states that on 7/12/2006 I owed them $11.25 for a "research fee". I interestingly enough, received this statement but didn't know why I had received it. Guess what, I found out!! After asking them repeatedly for any evidence of my request, they simply skated around my question and stated "i'm sorry but the charge is valid". They would not tell me whether or not they had received a written request or if they had my phone conversation regarding this on file. If by chance they have evidence of this, they certainly never informed me of any fees associated with this request.
