Topic Title: Home Base Account Gone Bad

VT in Oregon says: In March of 2000 I opened a Home Base Credit Card in order to take advantage of a 10% off promotion. The spin was no interest and no payments for 6 months. I paid half the balance off in April. I moved, changed my address with the post office and waited for the rest of the bill. The bill never came. I found out that the bills were sent to my old address and held there by the new owners. I immediately called HSBC to explain the problem and sent the rest of the money (which now had been reported as late fopr 90 days and sent to collection) I was assured this would be removed from my credit report. Not! I sent letters in 2000, 2001,and 2003 to no avail.
This still shows up on my otherwise crystal clear credit report. Today I was transferred 6 different times before I got through to the "right" depatment and was told I need to send another letter to the same place I sent my letters before! This is Bull----! What can be done! My account was paid as well as late fees which I take responsibility for, but the collection is too much! Any suggestions would be appreciated. - Frustrated in Portland, OR
