Topic Title: HSBC Change of Address Scam Continues
DR, in the military stationed in California, reports:
"I bought furniture from a Rhodes store in Alabama. I made continuous payments for about a year, then, since I'm in the military, I had to move. Upon moving to CA (even though I filled out an online change of address form) I stopped receiving bills. I sent in my payments, but one day got a call from a collection agency saying my account had been sent in for collections due to nonpayment!!! And on top of that, they wanted more than DOUBLE what I originally owed. It is still unresolved, since I have no number to call them, they have no number to call me (I moved once again), and there is no possible way I can pay the amount they say I owe in one payment."
Editor's Note: This has been a continual problem - or a good scam by HSBC - since 1999 that we can verify. Use great caution, since filing a change of address with HSBC can be an invitation for abuse as evidenced by what you see here.
